Anadolu Efes Rebuilds Ambitiously with Mike James and Key Signings for EuroLeague Return
After a disappointing previous EuroLeague season, Turkish basketball powerhouse Anadolu Efes is actively reconstructing its roster to reclaim its status as a top contender. The team, which dominated the competition in the early 2020s, has quietly pursued significant acquisitions this summer under coach Pablo Laso.
The club began its summer signings by bringing back Croatian star Dario Šarić after a decade in the NBA. Recently, Anadolu Efes surprised many by signing Bruno Fernando, an Angolan center previously targeted by Maccabi Tel Aviv. The most notable addition came with the unexpected acquisition of Mike James, the EuroLeague's all-time leading scorer, who averaged 16.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists last season.
Alongside James, the team secured Matthew Strazel from Monaco and retained Jordan Loyd, who previously played for Anadolu Efes. This backcourt trio, complemented by P.J. Dozier, forms a particularly strong lineup. Although the club missed out on signing Jedi Osman, who joined PAOK, Anadolu Efes is still aiming to add Mario Hezonja, a player also sought by Dubai teams and Hapoel Tel Aviv.
The frontcourt's performance will largely depend on Šarić's current form, while forwards Isaiah Cordinier and Arcan Osman, who were bright spots last season, are expected to continue playing significant roles. By the end of the summer, it will become clear whether Anadolu Efes can challenge for the EuroLeague title again or at least secure a playoff and Final Four spot.
Current roster highlights include Mike James, Matthew Strazel, P.J. Dozier, Jordan Loyd, Dario Šarić, Bruno Fernando, and others, signaling a robust and competitive squad for the upcoming season.
