IDF Destroys Extensive Hezbollah Tunnel Network in Southern Lebanon Near Maghdal Zoun
The Israel Defense Forces recently destroyed two underground tunnel routes near the village of Maghdal Zoun in southern Lebanon. These tunnels, part of a larger fortified network, extended approximately 200 meters in length and reached depths of about 20 meters. Inside, the IDF found living chambers, three launch shafts aimed toward Israeli territory, and dozens of weapons. The operation was conducted by the 551 Brigade combat team and engineering units under the command of Division 91 in the security zone.
In addition to the tunnels, the IDF uncovered a weapons cache containing mortars, launchers, and RPG rockets during searches in the area. Over the past week, the brigade also neutralized an armed militant near one of the tunnels. Military sources in the Northern Command revealed that Hezbollah has been reinforcing positions it believes the IDF might exploit in a potential escalation, transferring weapons to temporary outposts along the "yellow line" border, which Israel continues to target.
According to reports, as part of an agreement with Lebanon, the IDF insisted on securing specific villages considered strategic assets where Hezbollah and Iranian forces heavily invested in terror infrastructure. The Lebanese army is now expected to enter these areas, including underground sections, to confront Hezbollah forces. However, assessments suggest Hezbollah will resist withdrawal and engage Lebanese troops in conflict.
