Two Teenagers Charged with Burglary and Theft at Hasidic Rebbe's Study in Bnei Brak
Two minors aged 14 and 16 from Bnei Brak have been charged with breaking into the study room of the Rebbe of the Tshernobyl Hasidic dynasty. The suspects forced open a safe and stole unique silver items valued at approximately 100,000 shekels. The Tel Aviv District Youth Prosecution Unit filed a serious indictment and requested house arrest for the two youths until the conclusion of legal proceedings. The investigation, conducted by the Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan police station, began after three complaints of break-ins in the same urban area were reported.
According to the investigation, the main incident occurred in June when the two suspects entered the Tshernobyl Hasidic complex on Aharonovitch Street in Bnei Brak. They broke into the Rebbe's study, opened the local safe, and stole valuable silverware. The indictment reveals this was not their first offense: in April, they broke into a supermarket on the same street and stole food and drinks, and in May, they broke a window to enter a daycare center on Yarden Street, stealing cash and a checkbook from the secretariat room.
Following forensic and technological evidence collection, the two minors were identified and arrested by police detectives. During operational activities, the stolen silver items were fully recovered and returned to the synagogue's caretaker. The indictment accuses them of offenses including breaking into a place of worship and residence, joint theft, breaking into a non-residential building, and intentional property damage. The prosecution also requested full house arrest for the suspects until the legal process is complete.
