Israeli Police Arrest Suspect in Golan Double Murder During Armed Chase in Yirka
During an undercover operation in Yirka aimed at locating two suspects involved in a double murder in the Golan Heights last week, Israeli police officers witnessed a man shooting at another individual. The suspect attempted to flee on a motorcycle but was eventually apprehended. Upon arrest, police identified him as one of the suspects wanted for the double homicide. The covert operation followed new developments in the case, including the arrest of seven additional suspects.
The victim shot in Yirka was seriously injured, and during the pursuit, the suspect fired at the police officers. Police found a stolen motorcycle, a Glock handgun, and other evidence during the search. Another suspect was also detained in a separate operation nearby in a police vehicle. Both suspects were brought before the Nazareth Magistrate's Court for a hearing on the extension of their detention.
Police Commissioner Major General Danny Levi praised the operation, highlighting the determination and courage of the Northern District detectives and Haifa District police in closing the case against the suspects as part of an ongoing fight against crime in Arab society.
The double murder occurred last week in the Druze village of Buq'ata, where Marwan Abu Shaheen and Saada Saada, both in their 40s, were shot and killed. Emergency medical teams found the victims unconscious with gunshot wounds and transported them to Ziv Hospital in Nahariya, where they were pronounced dead. Investigations revealed the victims were shot after refusing to pay protection money to criminal organizations.
Emergency medical personnel described arriving at the scene to find the victims without pulse or breathing, providing resuscitation efforts before transporting them to the hospital in critical condition. Additional first responders confirmed the victims were injured due to violence and were evacuated while receiving ongoing resuscitation efforts.
