Israeli Police Arrest Dozens in Bedouin Community Over Extortion in Beersheba

Israeli police and Border Police detained dozens of suspects linked to extortion schemes targeting business owners in Beersheba. The arrests followed raids on homes in the Bedouin communities in southern Israel and other nearby settlements. During the investigation, an undercover police officer posed as a business owner in the Beersheba industrial zone. Criminal elements from the Bedouin community allegedly demanded protection money from him, using threats to extort tens of thousands of shekels. The undercover operation and the Central Unit gathered evidence implicating dozens of suspects, including others accused of damaging business property. The suspects are scheduled to appear later today at the Beersheba Magistrate's Court for a hearing on extending their detention.
