Yam Madar Passes Medicals, Nears Signing with Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball

Yam Madar, the 25-year-old point guard, is close to finalizing his transfer to Maccabi Tel Aviv after passing the club's medical examinations on Sunday. Following a dramatic late-night meeting with club officials, Madar agreed to a three-year contract reportedly worth around $2 million per season, with an option for two additional years. Madar arrived in Israel on Saturday after playing for the national team against Germany and met with Maccabi coach Oded Katash and team manager Ami Biton, who emphasized his professional role in the team. Madar expressed his desire to play under Katash, which influenced his decision.

Previously, Madar activated a $300,000 buyout clause from his contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv, rejecting improved offers from the club, including an unprecedented five-year deal worth $12.5 million. Despite Hapoel's efforts to retain him at any cost, Madar chose the professional challenge offered by Maccabi Tel Aviv. The club intensified negotiations through Madar's agent, Mishko Razentovich, overcoming initial salary demands higher than their initial $6 million offer for three years. Ultimately, Madar prioritized playing a significant role in the EuroLeague under Katash over a higher financial offer from his city rivals.
