Yam Madar Rejects Higher Offer From Hapoel Tel Aviv to Join Maccabi Tel Aviv

Israeli basketball guard Yam Madar has chosen to sign with Maccabi Tel Aviv despite receiving a significantly higher financial offer from Hapoel Tel Aviv. Madar, who will become the highest-paid Israeli player in the Israeli Basketball Premier League, agreed to a three-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv worth $2 million, slightly above his previous salary of $1.9 million at Hapoel Tel Aviv. However, Hapoel Tel Aviv had offered him a guaranteed five-year contract worth $3 million, which was $1 million more than Maccabi's deal.

Throughout the lengthy summer negotiations, Madar emphasized that money was not his primary motivation. After activating a $300,000 exit clause from his contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv, no further talks took place between Madar and Hapoel. Hapoel's management insisted he negotiate exclusively with one team to avoid a bidding war, and Madar chose to negotiate only with Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Ultimately, Madar decided to cross the street and join Maccabi Tel Aviv, the rival club to the one he has been associated with until now. This move marks a significant shift in his career and highlights his priorities beyond financial gain.
