17-Year-Old Dies From Haifa Shooting, Marking 150th Arab Victim in 2026 Violence Surge
Rambam Hospital announced on Saturday the death of 17-year-old Wiam Faisal, who was critically wounded two days earlier in a shooting at a gas station in Haifa. The attack also claimed the life of 18-year-old Jonathan Houri. Another young victim remains in critical condition, with doctors fighting to save his life.
The Abraham Initiatives organization reported that 150 Arabs have been killed in violence and crime-related incidents since the start of 2026, a 17% increase compared to 128 deaths during the same period last year. Faisal is the 14th person killed this week alone. Hours after the Haifa shooting, 30-year-old Mohammad Zidan was fatally shot in the village of Reineh near Nazareth.
Magen David Adom paramedics described finding the victim unconscious and without vital signs, confirming his death at the scene. The previous day, three people were murdered within about an hour across Israel. Among them was 75-year-old Rabbi Amos Guetta, stabbed to death at a yeshiva entrance in Netanya; a student in his 20s was arrested after fleeing the scene.
Violence also escalated in Arab communities: 24-year-old bus driver Ali Kamel Suwaad was shot dead in Shefa-'Amr, and shortly after, 21-year-old Kamel Abu Kalib, known to police, was killed in his car at a shopping center parking lot in Bigor near Haifa.
