Trey Lyles Returns to NBA, Signs One-Year Deal with Minnesota Timberwolves
Trey Lyles is making a surprising return to the NBA after spending the past season with Real Madrid in the EuroLeague. Despite advanced negotiations with Hapoel Tel Aviv and several other EuroLeague teams, the veteran forward has decided to sign a one-year contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Lyles, who played 650 games in the NBA for teams including Utah, Denver, San Antonio, Detroit, and Sacramento, is now set to rejoin the league after his first season in Europe.
During his EuroLeague season with Real Madrid, Lyles averaged 13.5 points per game, shooting 54.5% from the field and 45.9% from three-point range, helping the team reach the European championship final. In the NBA last season, he averaged 7.6 points per game with a 34.7% three-point shooting percentage. Minnesota is expected to give Lyles a significant role following trades that sent Julius Randle and Naz Reid away from the team.
