IDF Investigates Photo of Palestinian Bound in Gaza Amid Social Media Outcry
A photo circulating recently on social media, including Arabic accounts, shows a Palestinian man detained by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip. The image depicts the man lying face down with his eyes blindfolded and hands cuffed, tied to a wooden board with ropes. The photo was reportedly taken by an IDF soldier from the Nitzach Yehuda battalion operating in northern Gaza, who posted it with the caption "Good morning."
Following public concern and inquiries, the IDF confirmed on Thursday that it identified the incident after a thorough investigation. A command-level inquiry is ongoing, and those involved will be dealt with according to the findings. The IDF emphasized that if the footage is authentic, it violates military values and orders.
This case follows a December report by The Washington Post that exposed videos filmed by Israeli soldiers inside Gaza. The footage showed destruction of buildings, mass evacuations, burning structures, and partial detainment of Gazan residents. Soldiers were recorded stating their mission was to "conquer, expel, and settle" Gaza. The report highlighted that soldiers’ own sharing of these videos, with visible faces and names, causes significant damage to Israel and exposes them to potential International Criminal Court arrest warrants.
Legal experts reviewing the videos noted that in the most severe cases, the soldiers may have documented evidence of possible violations of international humanitarian law. The IDF continues to investigate these matters amid growing scrutiny of its conduct in Gaza.
