Israeli Police Arrest Three Suspects With Hundreds of Bullets After Shooting in Segev Shalom
Israeli police conducted a raid on Monday in a Bedouin settlement, detaining three suspects linked to a recent shooting incident in the community of Segev Shalom. The operation, carried out by local police, Border Police fighters, and other units, was based on precise intelligence and targeted a residential compound in the Jarjawi tribal area. During the search, officers seized two vehicles used by the suspects during the shooting, along with a large cache of weapons and ammunition. Confiscated items included 17 loaded magazines of 5.56 caliber rounds, 18 empty magazines of the same type, a Glock pistol magazine, hundreds of bullets, and six active communication devices with SIM cards.
The suspects were taken to the Segev Shalom police station for further investigation, together with the seized equipment. Deputy Chief Eli Cohen of the Segev Shalom station emphasized the police's zero-tolerance approach to gun violence and credited the arrests to effective intelligence work and inter-agency cooperation. This raid was part of "Operation Iron Net," a campaign announced by Police Commissioner Dany Levi aimed at combating crime in the southern district. The operation has recently seen multiple successes, including the prevention of a drug smuggling attempt involving 45 kilograms of hashish transported by drone from the Egyptian border. In that case, two young men from the Al Azazmeh tribe were arrested and face charges including violating state sovereignty, which carries harsher penalties and up to nine years in prison.
The police vow to continue using all available resources to fight crime and ensure the safety of residents in the region.
