Maccabi Tel Aviv Signs Forward Bonzi Colson for Second Stint, Prioritizing Israel Connection
Following their recent double championship win, Maccabi Tel Aviv has officially signed 30-year-old forward Bonzi Colson from Turkish club Fenerbahce on a two-year contract worth approximately 1.5 million euros per season. This marks Colson's second tenure with the Israeli club, where he previously played under coach Oded Katash.
Negotiations took about two months, with Maccabi's interest in re-signing Colson first reported in early May. Colson expressed a strong desire to return to Israel from the outset, easing discussions with the club. Unlike other foreign players hesitant due to regional security concerns, Colson openly conveyed his love for Israel and his connection to Maccabi Tel Aviv fans, who maintained contact during his time abroad.
A key factor in Colson's decision was his warm relationship with coach Katash, who coached him during his prior stint. Recent conversations between them reinforced Colson's preference for Maccabi over other EuroLeague offers.
Meanwhile, Maccabi is also focusing on extending and upgrading the contract of Oshae Brissett, a standout player this season. Brissett, already under contract for next season, has expressed his wish to stay, and the club is optimistic about concluding financial negotiations successfully.
