Bonzi Colson Officially Returns to Maccabi Tel Aviv for Second Stint
Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on Sunday that Bonzi Colson has officially signed a two-year contract to return to the club. The forward will earn approximately $1.5 million per season. Colson expressed his gratitude and excitement, saying, "I am happy and incredibly thankful to reunite with my Maccabi family. Since I left, the club, the fans, and the city of Tel Aviv have always held a special place in my heart."
Coach Oded Katash welcomed Colson back, highlighting his professional skills, energy, and strong connection to the club, calling it a "blessed closing of the circle" for both the player and the team. Maccabi Tel Aviv engaged in prolonged negotiations with Colson, who had also received an official offer from EuroLeague champions Olympiacos but ultimately chose to return to the Israeli champions.
Colson, 30, who stands 1.98 meters tall, previously played two successful seasons with Maccabi from 2022 to 2024. He was a key player in leading the team to consecutive EuroLeague playoff appearances, averaging 10.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in his first season and improving to 12.6 points and 5.3 rebounds in his second.
Despite his success and a guaranteed contract, Colson left Maccabi in the summer of 2024 alongside other stars due to the October 7 events and the challenging season amid the ongoing conflict. He then played two seasons with Fenerbahçe in Turkey, contributing to their historic EuroLeague title and reaching the Final Four again. However, his playing time decreased recently, averaging under 10 minutes per game in the EuroLeague playoffs and finishing the season with 7.1 points and 3 rebounds per game. This decline led him to activate his contract exit clause and return to Maccabi Tel Aviv.
