Maccabi Tel Aviv Advances Key Signings Amid Negotiations Over Center and Guards
Maccabi Tel Aviv is actively shaping its roster ahead of the new season, aiming to finalize the squad swiftly. Following the signing of Bonzi Colson, the club is focusing on securing a leading center, with Rishon Holmes as the primary target in advanced negotiations. The team recognizes Holmes as a costly acquisition but highly desirable. Another candidate considered is former Fenerbahçe player Armando Bacot. The center position will include a top player, Roman Sorkin, and a third center, with a pending decision on Zach Hankins, whose strong season may influence his retention despite earlier indications of departure.
Regarding the guard positions, significant gaps remain in negotiations with Danish guard Lundberg, who reportedly demands $10 million over three years, creating major hurdles. Similarly, Tamir Blatt, whose contract expired, has yet to reach an agreement; Maccabi is willing to offer $1 million, but Blatt seeks a higher salary and is exploring other options. Guard Lonnie Walker has an NBA opt-out clause until July 15, with reported league interest. Should one or more guards leave, Maccabi plans to recruit replacements to refresh the backcourt.
Confirmed to continue with the team are Oshae Brissett and John DiBartolomeo, who have reached agreements, alongside TJ Leaf and Gur Lavi. Most of the core roster is expected to remain intact. The club has also signed new or upgraded contracts this summer, including Jalen Hurd at $1.8 million, Bonzi Colson at $1.5 million, Jimmy Clark at $1 million, and Oded Katash at $1.1 million.
