Meta Tests Private AI Chat Feature Within WhatsApp Conversations

WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature called Side Chat that allows users to have private conversations with Meta AI directly within any chat. This feature enables users to ask questions or request suggestions from the AI without other participants seeing the interaction. Currently, users must tag Meta AI with @Meta AI in group chats, making the AI requests and responses visible to all participants. Side Chat, now in beta testing on select Android and iPhone devices, opens a separate window for private AI interaction, preserving the main conversation flow.

The feature leverages Meta's Private Processing technology, designed to understand conversation context while maintaining user privacy. Meta states that all requests are securely processed, preventing both Meta and WhatsApp from accessing the content of these private interactions. This approach ensures that AI responses do not disrupt ongoing discussions in the chat.

There is no official release date for Side Chat yet, and WhatsApp may implement further changes before launching the feature to all users. The current testing phase is limited to a small group of beta testers as the company continues development.
