Iran Says Sailing Outside Authorized Strait Lanes Is Unsafe After Vessel Strike
After reports that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps hit a Singapore-flagged cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's authority responsible for managing the waterway issued a warning on Monday. The agency said, in response to repeated inquiries, that any movement outside the designated routes is unsafe.
It also said the consequences of sailing outside the authorized lanes are the responsibility of the vessel's owner, operator, and captain. The statement came as a reaction to the reported strike in one of the world's most strategic maritime passages, but it did not address the incident itself beyond that warning.
