Nursing Student Arrested in Hadera on Suspicion of Elder Abuse

A 25-year-old nursing student from Jisr az-Zarqa, Ryan Amash, was arrested on Wednesday in Hadera on suspicion of assaulting and abusing elderly residents at the “Ad 120” care home. The facility itself alerted police and filed a complaint, prompting an investigation at Hadera station.

Amash, who is training to become a nurse, was detained in front of her fellow nursing students at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in the city. Police said evidence gathered during the inquiry strengthened the suspicions against her. She was also suspected of obstructing police activity.

Later on Wednesday, police brought her to Hadera Magistrate’s Court and asked to extend her detention by five days. Judge Rania Sarug'ji said there was reasonable suspicion that she had committed the alleged offenses, but she criticized the way the arrest was carried out at her place of study.

Through her lawyer, Murad Amash, the judge said investigators should reconsider arrest procedures and whether there was any need to arrest a person immediately at a workplace or educational institution. She added that the investigation timeline showed no urgency justifying such a harmful step.
