A 25-year-old nursing student, Rian Amash from Jisr al-Zarqa, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting and abusing residents at the “Ad 120” nursing facility in Hadera and obstructing police. The arrest came after the facility itself raised the alarm and filed a complaint with police, prompting an investigation in Hadera.
According to police, investigators collected evidence that strengthened the suspicions. Amash, who is studying to become a nurse, was detained in front of her classmates at the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera. The arrest took place during a broader period in which Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan police also detained three suspects in a separate case of elderly fraud and impersonating telecommunications company representatives.
On Wednesday, Amash was brought before the Hadera Magistrate’s Court, where police asked to extend her detention by five days. The court heard that she is suspected of assaulting residents at the facility, abuse, and interfering with police officers.
Judge Rania Sarouji ordered her held for only one additional day, saying there was a reasonable basis to believe she committed the offenses attributed to her. At the same time, the judge criticized the way police carried out the arrest at her place of study, as described by her attorney, Morad Amash.
