Israel’s Health Ministry said Wednesday evening that it had received information suggesting that “Tahinat HaPrince” products, originally meant for destruction, may have been stolen. The products had been recalled several months ago after food service inspectors found salmonella contamination.
The ministry said it filed a complaint with Israel Police and urged the public not to buy or consume any Tahinat HaPrince products. The warning applies to all expiration dates from 13/7/2027 through 6/11/2027, across several branded items.
The listed products are Al Amir 450 grams, 900 grams and 17 kilograms, Taaman 450 grams, pure and whole, Rami Levy 500 grams, pure and whole, Rami Levy 1 kilogram, pure, Tahinat HaPrince pure 450 grams and 17 kilograms, Tahinat HaPrince whole 450 grams, 450 KAPRI grams and 900 grams, and Greger HaZahav 500 grams.
The ministry said salmonella can cause intestinal illness even in healthy people, with fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare cases it can lead to complications, and it may become severe or life-threatening for young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.
