Shin Bet Director David Zini ordered the dismantling of a memorial display for service members killed on October 7 that had been set up at the entrance to the agency headquarters in Tel Aviv. The order was reported publicly for the first time on Wednesday by Haaretz.
In response, the Shin Bet said October 7 was one of the gravest and most painful failures in Israel's history, but argued that showing only some of the fallen “diminishes the failure and reflects only part of the terrible disaster that befell us.” The agency added that there is already a memorial wall at headquarters displaying all of the fallen, not just a small portion of them.
The article did not say when the display was erected or when it would be removed, only that Zini instructed it be taken down. It also notes the display commemorated Shin Bet personnel who fell on October 7, the date of Hamas's attack on Israel.
