Former Shin Bet chief Yoram Cohen has sent a pre-lawsuit warning letter to Channel 14 and filed a defamation claim against Mika Kobi, after Kobi said on a program hosted by Shimon Riklin that Cohen had pushed for Yahya Sinwar’s release while allegedly knowing he intended to carry out a massacre.
Cohen, who recently joined Gadi Eisenkot’s Yesh! party, said the remarks were “completely false” and accused Channel 14 of being a platform for “a serious false smear” against someone who served for decades in the security establishment. He added, “As the political alternative led by Yesh! with Eisenkot grows stronger, so does the campaign of slander and lies, the pressure is understandable and clear.”
The contested remarks were broadcast on June 17. According to the article, Kobi made them during Riklin’s show on Channel 14.
Through the law firm Ben Tzur Korb & Co., Cohen demanded that Kobi retract his statements. He also asked Channel 14 to issue a public correction and apology, state that the claims were untrue, and remove the allegedly false publications.
