Former Shin Bet Chief Yoram Cohen Criticizes Likud's Election Tactics and Netanyahu's Pressure

Yoram Cohen, former head of the Shin Bet and recent addition to Gadi Eizenkot's Yisrael party, spoke out on 103fm radio on Monday, sharply criticizing the Likud party's conduct in the current election campaign. When asked if he sensed pressure on Netanyahu due to the polls and Eizenkot's rise, Cohen responded that Likud is under serious pressure, noting that their campaign spokespeople have resorted to problematic and undignified tactics. He condemned the party for engaging in "low and despicable" attacks, including targeting family members and possibly fallen soldiers, which he said reflects the party's desperation under pressure.

Cohen also expressed concern about Likud's behavior, describing signs of panic within the party. Regarding the current Shin Bet chief, David Zini, Cohen acknowledged Zini's military achievements but emphasized that the Shin Bet operates as a civilian agency with significant powers in both Palestinian territories and Israel. He stressed the importance of maintaining professionalism and political neutrality, even if the prime minister requests illegal actions.

Cohen criticized some of Zini's decisions, particularly his public statements and security measures, including the heightened protection for Netanyahu's family, which Cohen viewed as excessive. However, he expressed hope that these issues could be corrected and are not irreversible.
