Former Knesset member Ram Shefa announced on Wednesday that he will run in the primaries of the Democrats party, with the aim of securing a realistic spot on the party’s joint electoral list for the next Knesset election.
Shefa has broad experience in the center-left camp. He previously served as an MK, chaired the Education, Culture and Sports Committee, and was also chairman of the Labor faction during the national unity government.
Since the outbreak of the war on October 3, Shefa has stepped back from direct politics and worked in civilian recovery efforts. In recent months, he served as head of the kibbutz movement’s rehabilitation team in the western Negev.
In that role, he led efforts to rebuild and strengthen communities in the Gaza envelope that were damaged in the terrorist attack. With the party now accepting candidacies, he says he wants to return to active public service in the Knesset.
