Israel’s Police Internal Investigations Department, known as the Police Internal Investigations Division, summoned a Tel Aviv District police officer for questioning under caution on Wednesday after he was filmed using violence against Haredi protesters. According to Channel 14, the interrogation is expected to take place in the coming days.
The case is not isolated. The department is preparing to summon additional officers suspected of violent conduct during recent Haredi demonstrations, as part of a broader probe into police behavior at those rallies.
Channel 14 said an internal discussion was held in the department about complaints and recordings related to police handling of anti-Haredi protests. Participants reportedly agreed that the scenes seen in the footage had no place in the Israel Police.
Sources familiar with the matter said the department believes officers suspected of showing excessive zeal, or “motivation,” in dealing with the protests should be fully investigated. The inquiries are continuing, and the upcoming questioning may provide further clarity about the incidents and the conduct of the officers involved.
