A large car protest in support of prisoners described as “Torah prisoners” is set to begin Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., with thousands of vehicle owners from across different communities driving in organized convoys from 19 launch points around Israel toward Prison 10. The demonstration is being billed as an act of protest, solidarity and unity, under the slogan: “Enough! There is no path without the path of Torah!”
Organizers say major ultra-Orthodox factions have called on supporters to participate, including the Jerusalem Faction and the Edah HaChareidis. They also said it had initially been reported that Degel HaTorah would join after approval from Rabbi Dov Lando, but that some political activists blocked the move. In Shas, Rabbi Moshe Maya reportedly said participation was חובה, or obligatory, though the party itself is refraining.
The stated goals are the immediate release of all those arrested over Torah study, an end to what organizers call false arrests, and the total cancellation of measures against Torah students and their families. “We will not sit quietly while our brothers are behind bars for studying Torah, and while yeshiva students and married students are being chased in the streets,” the organizers said, calling on all Jews to join the protest against what they described as persecution in Israel.
Thousands have already registered on the internal updates line, and the organizing committee said its phone center has been overwhelmed by unusually heavy call volume, causing temporary technical disruptions that are now being handled by communications staff. Ahead of the convoy, participants were told to decorate their cars, join the internal hotline before departure, follow only official instructions, keep to a steady speed of about 50 km/h, stay in the right lane, avoid stopping, and not provoke police, civilians or block roads. The committee stressed the convoy is legal and coordinated with Israel Police, and said all guidance was approved by attorney Natan Rosenblat.
