Israeli police have not yet decided whether to approve an unusual protest planned for Wednesday, in which convoys of cars would slowly drive toward Prison 10 and back. The issue is still being discussed inside the police force, and because the event would cross several police districts, approval requires coordination between different regional commands.
The protest initiative is being led mainly by Agudat Yisrael. According to the report, the plan calls for car caravans leaving from several locations across Israel, with protest signs and loudspeaker systems. Degel HaTorah has not yet made a final decision on whether to join the effort.
Police told Kikar HaShabbat that they view the right to protest as a basic principle in a democracy and allow demonstrations that remain within the law. At the same time, they warned, “We will not allow public disorder or any behavior that may endanger the public.” They added that every request for a demonstration is examined individually and allowed only under legal conditions and any restrictions set by the police.
People familiar with the matter said that if the police ultimately reject the proposal and protest groups go ahead anyway without permits, participants could face police enforcement and fines. For now, no final decision has been made, and the organizers are waiting for the police response.
