The Haredi newspaper HaModia reported on Friday that opposition to the draft of yeshiva students is escalating, with a major protest planned for next weekend outside Military Prison 10. The demonstration is expected to take the form of a convoy of thousands of cars that will travel toward the IDF detention facility where arrested yeshiva students, described in the report as draft evaders, are being held.
According to the report, the organizers want the convoy to create a highly visible public display and send a clear message against the continued arrests within the Haredi sector. The event is being planned as a show of protest that will accompany the demonstrators along the route to the prison.
HaModia said the entire operation has been reviewed from the outset with close legal guidance. The organizers stressed in advance that they see the action as a fully legitimate protest meant to express the pain and outcry of Haredi Jewry, and that it will be carried out in accordance with the law and within the bounds of permitted freedom of expression and protest.
