Moti Babchik, widely seen as one of the most influential figures in United Torah Judaism and one of the organizers of the protest outside Prison 10, said in an interview with ynet that the rally was a response to arrests of yeshiva students. He said, “They are arresting those who sit and study. The Rebbe of Gur decided that he had to respond, and we did it outside the prison where they are held.”
Babchik said the protest drew participants in 240 buses and thousands more private cars. He added that the movement is now considering its next steps, saying, “Additional measures are being considered.”
Addressing tensions with the government, Babchik said the party had tried to dissolve the Knesset, but no longer sees that as necessary because “it is dissolving in two or three weeks automatically.” He said the party has a problem with the government and that is why United Torah Judaism left it.
