Thousands Protest Detention of Yeshiva Student Outside Israel's Prison 10

On Monday evening, thousands of Hasidic followers of the Gur community gathered outside Prison 10 in Jerusalem to protest the detention of yeshiva student Israel Reuven Fein. Fein was arrested after appearing three times at the military recruitment office to regularize his status, mistakenly visiting the Jerusalem office instead of Haifa. After being redirected twice, he was detained upon his third visit. During the protest, some Hasidim attempted to dismantle the prison fence, shouting "Tear it down, tear it down," in dramatic scenes captured on video.

Earlier in the day, Yehadut HaTorah chairman MK Yitzhak Goldknopf, accompanied by Deputy Minister Moti Babad, visited the imprisoned students inside Prison 10. Upon leaving, Goldknopf expressed deep sorrow, noting the pain of seeing the tears of the young men and their parents, emphasizing that their only "offense" was following the path of Torah and reverence as instructed by their rabbis.

The protest highlights ongoing tensions surrounding the conscription of ultra-Orthodox yeshiva students in Israel. The large turnout and emotional responses underscore the community's resistance to military enlistment policies and the impact of arrests on families and religious institutions.
