As Israel marked the national memorial for the second anniversary of October 7, 2025, Southern District Commander, Brig. Gen. Amir Klein, presented the family of Chief Insp. Itamar Elos with his personal weapon, which he had used during the October 7 fighting, together with a memorial cushion bearing the insignia he wore in service with the Israel Police.
The police said the items were handed over as a gesture of appreciation, respect and remembrance for Elos and his legacy. Elos, a resident of Ofakim, left home on the morning of October 7 and headed toward the combat zones out of a sense of duty to defend civilians. During the battles he came under fire, engaged terrorists, rescued civilians, treated the wounded, evacuated casualties and worked to neutralize attackers.
Elos died a few months ago of medical causes. In remarks to the family, Klein said the Israel Police has surrounded them with support and will continue to accompany them. He described Elos as “not only a brave policeman, but a value-driven, dedicated man with love for people,” who “in the moment of truth chose to run toward danger to save others.”
Klein added that Elos left behind “a legacy of courage, giving and responsibility,” and said his memory would be honored not only in ceremonies and symbols, but also in how police continue to serve the public according to the values he believed in. He said that legacy of heroism would continue to accompany Israel Police officers and inspire generations of police and fighters.
