Israeli Police to Present October 7 Terror Attack Investigations to Fallen Officers' Families
Nearly three years after the October 7, 2023 terror attack, the Israeli Police will for the first time present detailed investigations of the battles that day to the families of the fallen officers. This presentation will take place next week at the National Police College in Beit Shemesh, following about a year of investigative work led by Deputy Commissioner David Beitan.
In recent days, police representatives have begun preparatory meetings with the families to ready them for the content of the investigations. Each family will have the opportunity to ask questions during the sessions. The investigations focus on the conduct of police forces during the terror attack, moments of heroism by the fallen officers, operational lessons learned, and the sequence of events at various battle sites. However, the investigations will not include personal conclusions regarding individual commanders or officials.
A senior police official emphasized that while flaws exist in any operation, especially one as complex as October 7, the police were the only body that effectively defended and sacrificed for the residents of southern Israel that day. The official praised District Commander Amir Cohen, stating he saved lives through his operational and command capabilities, calling him "the right man at the right time."
The police view this presentation to the families as a crucial step in completing the lessons learned process and honoring the bravery of the officers who fell in the fierce battles of October 7.
