The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Tuesday that an extensive research effort has revealed that 170 individuals in Gaza, who were killed during the war and presented as journalists and media personnel, were in fact operatives for terror organizations, primarily Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The IDF stated it has published verified evidence, including visual materials and documents originating from the terror groups and some found on the battlefield, which attest to their organizational affiliations and roles within the terror factions. According to the IDF, 118 of these individuals were active in Hamas, 49 operated within Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), one was affiliated with the 'Lions of the Desert' (a designation used by some militant groups), and two belonged to the Popular Resistance Committees. The military also reported that 17 of these operatives infiltrated Israeli territory on October 7th.
