The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Wednesday the elimination of Mohammed Abdel Aziz Mohammed Najjar in the southern Gaza Strip. The IDF identified Najjar as a member of Hamas's armed wing who infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7, 2023, attack. Following his death, Hamas presented Najjar as a journalist, omitting any mention of his affiliation with the militant group, a narrative also adopted by international press outlets.

According to the Israeli military, Najjar was recently involved in planning attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians. The IDF stated he was also working to rebuild Hamas's capabilities, activities they characterized as repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement.

The IDF reported that precise munitions and aerial surveillance were employed to minimize civilian risk prior to the strike. Israeli forces remain deployed in Gaza and will continue to act against immediate threats, the military added.
