Police say they have completed the investigation into the death of a 3-year-old boy from Jerusalem, and the child’s father is now suspected of murder. According to the investigation, the father allegedly suffocated his son to death using a plastic bag.
The case began on June 6, after a report that the toddler, from the Ras al-Amud neighborhood in East Jerusalem, had been taken to a city hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead.
Investigators said the autopsy did not by itself strengthen the suspicion of an unnatural death, but later investigative steps led police to focus on the father. Over the past few weeks, he was questioned and, according to police, became linked to the suspicions and reenacted the acts attributed to him.
His detention has been extended repeatedly in court. On Tuesday, the prosecution is expected to file a declaration of intent to indict him, and a formal indictment is expected in the coming days, along with a request to keep him in custody until the end of the proceedings.
