West Bank Tensions Rise Amid Olive Harvest and Israeli Elections

Areas across the West Bank, including Jenin, Nablus, and Hebron, are experiencing escalating field confrontations and repeated attacks targeting Palestinian civilians in their homes and farms. These assaults coincide with ongoing economic pressure on the agricultural sector, particularly the damage to olive trees during the harvest season.

Professor Ayman Yousef told i24NEWS that the current escalation is occurring alongside Jewish holidays and the Israeli election race. He stated that right-wing factions are seeking to worsen the situation on the ground to mobilize settler votes. Yousef believes the tension is likely to persist even after the elections, given the dominance of right-wing discourse that rejects the establishment of a Palestinian state or the evacuation of settlements.

With the political horizon blocked and the two-state solution becoming less feasible, questions arise about alternative Palestinian plans to confront the current reality. Yousef explained that the remaining options are limited to popular resilience or internationalizing the conflict by seeking to delegitimize the occupation in international forums, leveraging advanced European positions.

Regarding the Arab role, Yousef noted that Arab nations are preoccupied with multiple regional issues and internal crises. He suggested that Israel is exploiting this situation to impose new realities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
