Salman, who grew up in Denmark with a Polish mother and Palestinian father, has previously expressed concern about global conflicts, stating, "Everyone knows what's happening now, so it's just terrible." Irish media interpreted Salman's action as significant support for Byrne, especially as Byrne and his teammates faced domestic criticism for playing the match against Israel. The Israeli national team was defeated by Ireland two days prior to this incident, ahead of the continuation of the Nations League qualifiers for both teams.
