Following the match, Irish media lauded Jack Byrne, who scored the third goal, for a provocative goal celebration. Byrne kissed a black armband he was wearing on his arm while facing the Israeli fans in the stands in Debrecen, Hungary. Salman has previously stated, "I wish I could do more, there are conflicts or problems in many places in the world, not just where my family comes from. Irish sources commented on Salman's actions, stating, "This is a significant expression of support from Salman to Byrne."
