Delivery App Yalla Partners with Paz Retail Chain Yellow
Delivery company Yalla is set for a major expansion into the retail market with the expected addition of the Yellow convenience store chain, part of the Paz group, to its platform. Initially launching in Jaffa, Haifa, Givat Eron, and Wadi Ara, the partnership will eventually extend to Yellow branches nationwide, including Paz supermarkets like Super Yuda and Freshmarket. Currently, Yalla's platform primarily features smaller retailers and local shops. This collaboration with a major national brand marks a significant shift for Yalla, which has historically focused on restaurants and businesses within the Arab community. The move is particularly noteworthy as Yalla competes for the acquisition of Wolt Market, with Paz being one of two finalists in the bidding process, each offering approximately 250 million shekels. This means Yalla's potential retail partner could simultaneously become the buyer of its competitor's supermarket operations. Paz already operates on the Wolt platform, potentially placing it in a triple role: acquiring Wolt Market, continuing sales through Wolt, and intensifying competition via Yalla. This demonstrates that retailers can engage with multiple platforms simultaneously. Yalla, which originated in Umm al-Fahm and built a strong presence in the Arab sector, adapted its services to local needs, developing mapping solutions for areas with non-standard addresses and offering cash payment options for customers without digital payment methods. This strategy allowed Yalla to connect previously underserved populations and businesses to delivery services. The company now aims to leverage this experience for broader expansion beyond its established market. The infrastructure developed in the Arab sector, including existing customer relationships and delivery networks, can facilitate the addition of new retail brands and products, increasing app usage and penetration into the general market. Yalla, which began with nine restaurants and five couriers, has grown to approximately 3,000 restaurants and 5,000 couriers. The integration with Yellow offers Yalla an opportunity to reach new audiences and regions, as well as diversify order types. In April, Yalla raised 60 million shekels at a post-money valuation of 310 million shekels, with investors including Israel Post and Lyman-Shlis. The partnership with Yellow is expected to significantly boost Yalla's presence in the everyday shopping sector.
