Lone Soldiers From Around the World Connect in Israeli Desert Trek

Approximately twenty lone soldiers, serving in both regular and reserve duty, are participating in a three-day trek in the Mitzpe Ramon region organized by the "Ach Gadol" (Big Brother) association. The expedition aims to foster a connection with Israel and process their experiences of military service and immigration.

The soldiers are hiking about 35 kilometers through desert trails, rappelling, and sleeping under the stars. The "Ach Gadol" association supports lone soldiers during and after their military service, with this annual trek providing an opportunity to experience Israel firsthand.

Evenings are spent around campfires, discussing and processing their experiences since moving to Israel and during their service. To create a shared space, participants are encouraged to speak only Hebrew throughout the journey, fostering a sense of belonging.

The participants hail from diverse backgrounds, including Argentina, the Netherlands, France, and even Iran. They bring their unique cultures, languages, and life stories, united by the shared experience of immigrating to Israel and serving in the military far from family and familiar surroundings.

One participant shared, "Despite all the difficulty, this journey reminds me that I am not alone. I meet people here who understand what I am going through without many words, and together we create a home, a family, and a sense of belonging in Israel." The association emphasizes providing a supportive community and a feeling of solidarity for these soldiers.
