Likud Accuses Lapid of Pre-Writing Political Attack After Security Briefing

The Likud party on Tuesday accused opposition leader Yair Lapid of preparing a political attack on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in advance, claiming he released a lengthy statement just two minutes after receiving a security briefing.

According to Likud, Lapid emerged from the briefing with Netanyahu at 11:39 PM and by 11:41 PM had already published a statement that included political barbs. Likud questioned how Lapid could have produced such a response so quickly, suggesting either he writes "at the speed of light" or the statement was pre-written and unrelated to the briefing he received.

In his statement, Lapid had stated that updates on threats should come from professional sources like the IDF and Shin Bet, not from a politician's Twitter account during an election campaign, adding there was no reason to cause public panic.

Netanyahu himself announced the completion of the security update, which included details on potential attacks on various fronts ahead of the elections. The briefing was attended by the Military Secretary and the intelligence officer of the Military Secretariat.
