Nova Festival Site Barred From Festivities Ahead of October 7 Anniversary
The Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) has announced that no parties or festive activities will be permitted at the site of the Nova music festival in the Re'im forest as the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack approaches. This decision comes amid reports of plans to hold celebrations at the location where a massacre occurred.
In coordination with Israeli police and security and rescue services, only visits and activities focused on remembrance and commemoration will be allowed. The KKL-JNF urged visitors to respect "the sanctity of the place, the memory of the murdered individuals, and above all, the feelings of the bereaved families."
The organization specified that setting up tents, camping, installing sound systems, or lighting fires, including barbecues, will be prohibited. Any other activity deemed incompatible with the site's memorial character will also be forbidden.
"Just as no one would dare imagine organizing a party at the Auschwitz extermination camp, it is inconceivable to organize any celebration at the Nova site in the Re'im forest, where 378 civilians and security forces members were murdered," stated Eyal Ostrovsky, chairman of the KKL-JNF. "Only one thing guides us: preserving the sanctity of the memory of those who were murdered," he added. The KKL-JNF stated it has invested millions of shekels in developing a memorial site at Nova.
