Air Europa Staff Protest Flights to Israel Amid Safety Concerns

Employees of the Spanish airline Air Europa are demanding the option to volunteer for flights to Israel, citing safety concerns. The airline's management, however, is refusing to change procedures and insists on requiring crews to fly, asserting that Israel is "not a war zone." This stance has led to cynical protests from staff, with some reportedly saying, "There is no war, fly to Tel Aviv."

Air Europa is not alone in facing such opposition. Employees of Brussels Airlines have also joined the protests, expressing significant worries about safety, psychological well-being, and ethical considerations regarding flights to Israel. The Belgian union ACV Puls has explicitly linked its stance to the Israeli military's actions in the Gaza Strip and has called on the Belgian government to clearly state its position on the matter.

This internal employee resistance, fueled by a combination of security fears and political-ethical viewpoints, is creating a "workers' revolt" within European airlines. The complex situation is significantly hindering the airlines' ability to resume regular operations to Ben Gurion Airport, leaving thousands of Israeli passengers in ongoing uncertainty.
