Man Urinates on Jerusalem Monastery Wall; Recent Incidents Target Christians

A man identified as Jewish urinated on the outer wall of the St. James Monastery in Jerusalem's Old City Armenian Quarter on September 29, according to Ynet, citing the Russian website Incidentia.ru. A video reportedly shows the man defiling the monastery building before a guard intervenes and escorts him away. Incidentia.ru claims the act was religiously motivated and that the monastery has been repeatedly targeted by Jewish extremists, including instances of people spitting at the building.

Last month, police arrested six religious Jews, five of them minors, on suspicion of spitting near the monastery entrance, banging on its gates, and throwing stones onto the property. Following these arrests, police increased their presence around the monastery to prevent further attacks. Shortly after, a 9-year-old Armenian boy was pepper-sprayed near the monastery.

Another incident targeting Christians occurred in late September, according to the Russian report. An Orthodox Jew allegedly spat on the ground while passing Christian pilgrims near the nearby Armenian Catholic Church of Our Lady of Sorrows. The Russian publication notes that police are taking measures to prevent harassment of Christian clergy and attacks on church property in the Old City, though spitting at clergy in the area remains frequent.
