Grieving Parents Welcome New Son After Hamas Hostage's Death
The parents of Almog Sarusi, a hostage killed by Hamas, have welcomed a new son named Lavi. The child was conceived using eggs that Almog's parents, Nira and Yigal Sarusi, had frozen approximately 25 years ago. Almog Sarusi was abducted from the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, and later died in Hamas captivity.
Following their son's death, the Sarusis decided to use the preserved biomaterial. After discussing the possibility with their other children and finding a surrogate mother, they underwent several attempts before achieving pregnancy. The family kept the pregnancy private until the baby's circumcision ceremony, which took place in Ra'anana.
The ceremony was attended by the city's mayor, Chaim Broyde, who described the event as being filled with both tears and pain, but also joy due to the new arrival. In their invitation to the ceremony, the parents referred to the birth as a miracle. They stated their intention to always cherish Almog's memory while embracing the new life that fate has given them, alongside their grief.
