Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Team Aims for EuroCup Title and EuroLeague Berth

Hapoel Jerusalem is set to begin its EuroCup season against Germany's Rostock in Belgrade on Tuesday, with the clear objective of winning the tournament and securing a spot in the EuroLeague. The team has undergone significant changes in the offseason, appointing experienced Serbian coach Sasa Obradovic and substantially increasing its budget. The foreign player roster has been rebuilt with players familiar with European competitions, aiming to make the team a genuine title contender.

Despite high expectations, Jerusalem faces a major setback with the absence of its star player, Jarell Harper, who extended his contract until 2029 but will miss several months due to a thumb injury. To compensate, Lorenzo Brown, with extensive European experience, has been signed and is expected to lead the team until Harper's return. The foreign lineup also includes new additions Jalen Smith, Jaylen Milton, Devonte' Cacok, and Kenny Lofton, intended to create a more physical, resilient, and experienced squad capable of competing in the decisive stages of the tournament.

The Israeli player roster remains largely unchanged, with the club confident that the existing players, along with the addition of Eitan Burg, will provide sufficient depth. This contrasts with rivals Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv, who have strengthened their domestic rosters.

Jerusalem's task is expected to be more challenging this season, as the EuroCup has become more competitive with the addition of quality teams. The format for the knockout stages has also changed to best-of-three series. Nevertheless, the club is open about its ambitions, stating that the summer's investment will be measured by the team's ability to lift the EuroCup trophy and earn the coveted EuroLeague qualification.
