Hapoel Jerusalem Advances in Bid for Permanent EuroLeague Basketball License
Hapoel Jerusalem basketball club announced on Saturday that it has officially progressed to the next stage in its pursuit of a permanent license in the EuroLeague. The club received confirmation from EuroLeague CEO Jordi Bertomeu that their proposal has advanced in the licensing process.
Hapoel Jerusalem joins a list of other clubs vying for permanent spots, including Hapoel Tel Aviv, Valencia, Dubai, Rome, PAOK Thessaloniki, Napoli, Paris, Partizan Belgrade, Crvena Zvezda, Virtus Bologna, and London Lions. Currently, there are eight available licenses to be distributed among clubs seeking permanent membership, in addition to the 13 clubs that already hold ownership stakes in the league.
The EuroLeague is expected to expand to 24 teams, with 20 teams anticipated to receive licenses in total. This number includes the 13 existing owners, such as Maccabi Tel Aviv, and excludes CSKA Moscow, which currently holds a license but is not participating in the competition at this time.
A statement from Hapoel Jerusalem expressed the club's determination, saying, "We will continue to act with determination and make every effort for Hapoel 'Midtown' Jerusalem to be a permanent member of the EuroLeague."
