EuroLeague rejects Hapoel Jerusalem's bid for next season
Hapoel Jerusalem will not play in the EuroLeague next season. The competition’s management informed the Jerusalem club that, because of the complicated security situation in Israel, it could not award the team a wild card for the coming campaign, even though Jerusalem had submitted the highest financial offer.
As a result, Hapoel Jerusalem will continue to compete in the EuroCup next season. The club said its multi-year agreement with the EuroCup does not mean it will stay there for the full term, but instead reflects its commitment to reach Europe’s top competition.
“The goal remains clear, as it was before, to win the competition and qualify for the EuroLeague,” the club said. Jerusalem added that its executives are already working to build the strongest possible roster to achieve that aim.
The club also said it is still pursuing every channel with EuroLeague officials to become a permanent member in the near future, and will keep investing the necessary resources and effort to get into the top league as soon as possible.
