Yossi Benayoun Weighs Coaching Offers Amid Family and International Interest

Former Israeli football star Yossi Benayoun is exploring his future options in the sport, with multiple clubs in Israel expressing interest in him as a professional manager. Benayoun, who retired as a player at 39 after a lengthy career that included stints with top European clubs, has taken a two-year break to complete coaching certifications and focus on his family. His talented son has also attracted attention from European clubs, prompting family trips to scout potential opportunities.

Benayoun revealed that he was close to ending his career in Spain but a foreign player limit prevented it, leading to his move to West Ham United in England. He also shared that a potential return to Liverpool was scuttled at the last minute due to the club's impending signing of Craig Bellamy, prompting him to join Arsenal instead.

Reflecting on his time as professional manager for the Israeli national team, Benayoun expressed disappointment that the team narrowly missed qualifying for the Euros due to the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war (referred to as the 7.10 conflict), which forced matches to be relocated from Israel. He is now considering various coaching roles, potentially as a youth coach or assistant, and is open to working with the right mentor to build his coaching career, though he sees a professional manager role primarily within Israel due to his established name there.

Benayoun stated that while many Israeli clubs want him as a professional manager, securing such a position outside of Israel is challenging, hence his pursuit of coaching qualifications. He is currently weighing his options, considering whether to return to football soon or wait for the ideal opportunity.
