New Hapoel Jerusalem Forward David "Big Body" Roddy Eyes EuroCup Title

Hapoel Jerusalem is set to begin its quest for the EuroCup title and a coveted spot in the EuroLeague with a new coach and an upgraded roster. Into this mix steps 25-year-old forward David Roddy, making his European debut. Roddy, who previously played in the NBA, expressed his excitement about joining the Israeli club, stating, "It was the right time for me to come to the European market and to Jerusalem. It's a great club, and our goal is to win the EuroCup and be in the EuroLeague."

Roddy, who also played football in high school and was a quarterback, believes the European style of basketball will suit him better due to its physicality and his versatility. He noted that while leaving the NBA was difficult, the support from his new team has made the transition smoother than anticipated. His ultimate goal remains a return to the NBA, but he is focused on improving daily with Jerusalem.

He spoke highly of coach Sasa Obradovic, who had been watching his game for some time and appreciated his abilities. Roddy also mentioned conversations with former teammate Jared Harper and research into the club's history as factors in his decision. He drew inspiration from NBA stars like Kevin Durant and Nikola Jokic, emphasizing their consistent approach to the game.

Roddy expressed enthusiasm for exploring Israel's holy sites, calling Jerusalem a historic place he looks forward to discovering. Reflecting on his past with Kenny Lofton at Memphis, Roddy called Lofton "the best show in town" and expressed joy at reuniting. He acknowledged Jared Harper as the team's leader while he recovers from injury. Roddy was particularly impressed by teammate Yovel Zoosman, calling him the most consistent player on the team. He also shared his initial culture shock regarding Shabbat, appreciating the experience after adapting.

Roddy believes Hapoel Jerusalem has the talent, coaching, and fan support to win the EuroCup, calling it one of the toughest competitions in recent years.
