Social Media Star Romy Abergel Details Gruesome Medical Complications and Financial Ruin
Social media personality and model Romy Abergel, 25, has revealed the harrowing details of a complex medical procedure that resulted in a severe infection, causing decay in her nose and significant facial disfigurement. Abergel, who rose to prominence in Israel nearly a decade ago as a young transgender figure, shared in a candid interview that she underwent ten reconstructive surgeries over a year in Turkey following the infection.
"I saw myself without a nose, my face was distorted, I looked like a mutation," Abergel recounted, describing the devastating period. The ordeal left her unable to work for at least six months, draining all her savings. She also faced intense online abuse, with some users wishing her death while she was at her lowest point.
The immense physical and financial strain, coupled with the harsh online reactions, pushed Abergel to the brink of a mental breakdown, leading her to contemplate suicide. "I told myself, maybe I'll just end it. With everything I've been through, I don't see a reason to continue," she said, recalling a call to her mother expressing her despair.
Abergel, who had previously relocated to Thailand and navigated a high-profile legal battle after being arrested on suspicion of unlicensed business activity (from which she was later acquitted), is now visiting Israel. The full interview is set to air soon on the "Walla Ishi" podcast by Wallaالسלבs.
